Certified Saffron

Introduction

Our Organic Saffron is grown, and hand-picked by farmers in the Bulgarian mountains, free of pollution, pesticides and fertilisers.

Saffron is the most expensive spice, as it takes 150 flowers just to make 1 gram of Saffron.

This leads to much of the Saffron on the market being fake.

Tiny impurities can be included to make it heavier, or other plant stamens can have colour added to then be sold as Saffron.

Indeed, even the best quality Saffron may not have been stored correctly, as if it is not in an airtight tin, the light will quickly destroy the colour, aroma and flavour.

This is why we have our Saffron tested and certified in a French laboratory to ISO-3632-2 Grade 1 classification for taste, aroma and colour, and display the test certificate.

This gives you the peace of mind that you are buying the best quality product, as without this, how do you know what you are paying for, and what chemicals you are eating?

As you would expect, as well as supporting a community of farmers in Bulgaria, our tins can be recycled, as well as the labels, that are also vegan.

We are passionate about organic and vegan products, and have visited the lovely Bulgarian mountains on many occasions, and are helping the farmers find a market for their superior organic Saffron, that is natural and tested to be the best quality.

Please try our Saffron, and help the planet and farming community in Bulgaria.

Red Gold

Bulgarian Saffron

Saffron is proven to be the most expensive spice per unit weight in the world. It is no coincidence that it is often called "red gold". In addition to cooking, this precious natural gift is particularly important in cosmetics and medicine. This makes it an invaluable and highly desirable ingredient for various applications.

According to laboratory analysis performed in England, France, Switzerland and Germany, the best saffron in the world is produced in Bulgaria. The results of the research are truly impressive and the findings demonstrate that Bulgaria has some of the most favourable conditions for the cultivation of the wonderful saffron crocus.

Its extraction is a complex and time-consuming process. It takes a lot of knowledge and hard work, but the beauty and high value of the Bulgarian saffron rewards all our efforts. The soil in Bulgaria is fertile enough to produce naturally pure saffron crocus.

The cultivation process is truly picturesque. At dawn, before sunrise, the saffron flowers are carefully harvested by hand, one by one, before they open their petals. What follows is a precise separation of the stigmas from the purple flowers.

At this stage, saffron does not smell much. Its aroma is released after the stigmas are completely dried.

In order to preserve the quality of the flowers, the intricate preservation process requires special attention.

The end product has a sweet aroma, with floral and woody tones. It has a slightly bitter flavour reminiscent of honey that leaves a lasting memory on your taste buds.

The priceless Bulgarian saffron is available for you to enjoy. Touch its beauty, let it enchant you!

Insanely good quality! The aroma and the colour it gives to my Indian rice pudding is the best I have experienced. I can't wait to use it in my Biryani. I am also considering using this saffron while making soaps too.
